The Shropshire Smile Charity Studio Cycling July 2013
On Sunday the 7th July. We held a charity Studio Cycling to raise money for the Shropshire Smile Maternity Charity. This consisted of 4 studio cycling classes back to back with a 15 minute break in between each one. The event was held in the High Street in Bridgnorth and the weather was perfect for such an event. A big well done to everyone who took part in the event. It was not easy in that heat and everyone did really well to finish it. Everyone did exceptionally well with the fund raising as well, and combined with the generosity of the people passing by on the day, we managed to raise over £1100 for the Shropshire Smile Maternity Charity and this money will go towards providing valuable resource and equipment over the 5 Maternity Units in Shropshire. A big thank you and well done to everyone.
The Market Drayton 10k May 2013
On the 13th May 2003, a few of us took part in the Market Drayton 10k run.
It was a special day for us as we had Sponsored Pat Herriot to complete this event.
Pat from Much Wenlock, joined the Bridgnorth Running Club and took part in their 'Couch To 5k' scheme. Having completed this Pat really wanted to achieve the landmark of completing a run over the 10k distance to celebrate being 60 years young. Pat who is a regular at the Spinning classes was joined on the day for the run by myself and Alison Lamputt.
It was a real pleasure to sponsor Pat and to join her on the day for the run. We had a great day and Pa completed the run in a fantastic time of 1 hour 10 minutes. This was a great achievement and it was good to see the likes of Clare Plain and Karen Cashmore there at the end to cheer Pat on.
The The Dirtrun Duathlon March 2013
On Sunday the 3rd March 2013, 2 members of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in the first multi sport event of the year. The Dirtrun Duathlon held at Ombersley. Both Andy Speke and myself were involved in this event which consisted of a 5k cross country run followed a 15k MTB off road ride which consisted of the 3 laps of the 5k run route. To finish was a 3k run.
It was held over a tough route and you were having to drag your bike up some seriously steep sections in the woods. Andy and I completed it together in 70th and 71st respectively in a total time of 2 hours 22 minutes 23 seconds. Although to be fair, had wdidn't keep stopping to help others up the steep sections then I believe we could of achieved a top 10 finish!! The split times are as follows: -
5k Run - 30 minutes 36 seconds.
15k Bike by lap: -
Lap 1 - 31 minutes 12 seconds.
Lap 2 - 31 minutes 44 seconds.
Lap 3 - 31 minutes 57 seconds.
3k Run - 16 minutes 52 seconds.
The Apley Estate Run February 2013
On Sunday the 17th February 2013, it was the Apley Estate Run. The event was really well attended by both the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club and the Bridgnorth Running Club. There were 3 different events to choose from, the 5k, 10k and the half marathon. Amongst those doing the 10k were Dylan Webster who finished the course in 65th place out of 144 in a time of 51 minutes and 5 seconds. Also Jon Rogers who finished an impressive 3rd in a time of 36 minutes 25 seconds.
Amongst those entered into the 5k were Darren Whitehouse who finished 8th out of 63 in a time of 24 minutes 45 seconds. Eddie Brown who finished 20th in a time of 29 minutes 28 seconds. Debbie Smith and Emma Sirrell who finished together in 27th and 28th in a time of 32 minutes 25 seconds and Karen Cashmore and Claire Plain who were in their first event finishing together in 41st and 42nd in a time of 35 minutes 30 seconds.
Yes you did read that right. I beat Debbie Smith. After all this time of trying it finally happened. Debbie may try and tell you that she just wanted to run with her good friend Emma and was not interested in racing me, but don't believe a word of it. I won and now sit on top of the rivalry and as a result I am now considering retiring from the sport while i am in the number 1 spot!!!!
Well Done to everyone involved in this event as it is a tough course.
The Dirt Run February 2013
On Sunday the 3rd February 2013, 4 members of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in what was our first event of the season, The 7 mile Dirt Run at Top Barn Activity Centre, Ombersley, Worcester. This consisted of a 7 mile multi terrain run with plenty of mud. Myself and Debbie Smith were both doing our first event back from long spells out due to Injury and we were joined on the day by Andy Speke and Jon Rogers. We all enjoyed the event even if we did get a little muddy. Both Debbie and I taking it a little steady to see how the injuries would hold up. We ran the course together until we got to the last 300 yards when Debbie informed me that my shoe lace had become untied. By the the time I had slowed a little and looked down to check, when I looked back up, all I could see was Debbie waving in the distance as she made a dash for the finishing line!! At least Andy (having already finished) came back to run the last section with me. Both Andy and Jon both putting in fantstic times.
218 people completed the course.
Jon Rogers finished 3rd in a time of 45 minutes 4 seconds.
Andy Speke finished 33rd in a time of 54 minutes 39 seconds.
Debbie Smith finished 133rd in a time of 1 hour 8 minutes 43 seconds.
Eddie Brown finished 138th in a time of 1 hour 9 minutes 12 seconds.
Pictured below are Andy, Debbie and myself
The Bridgnorth Santa Dash December 2012
On Sunday 2nd December 2012. The Bridgnorth Triathlon Club and the Shropshire Smile Maternity Charity organised the Bridgnorth Santa Dash.
The Santa Dash was a great success and everyone had a good time. The High Street was very busy with the Christmas Market on and everyone involved in the Santa Dash gave the people of Bridgnorth quite a sight with close on 100 Santa's running the streets.
The weather was perfect for such a thing. Innitial signs show that somewhere in the region of £700 was raised for the Shropshire Smile Maternity Charity and a big thank you to everyone involved who helped raising this much for the charity.
We are certainly planning on making this an annual event.
Well done to Jon Rogers from the BridgnorthTriathlon Club who was first back across the line.

The next across the line in her first outing for the Bridgnorth riathlon Club was Emma Sirrell in a good time of 38 minutes 10 seconds, finishing in 202nd position. Then last across the line, that's right you heard me, last across the line for the club was Debbie Smith in a time of 38 minutes 11 seconds finishing 203rd overall. Did I mention that Debbie finished last!!
Chesire Triathlon May 2012
Luxemburg Marathon May 2012
On Sunday 27th May. Alison Lamputt was involved in the Chesire Sprint Triathlon and once again put in a great performance coming 2nd in her age group with a time of 1 hour 27 minutes 10 seconds. Alisons split times weras follows: -
Swim = 11 minutes 15 seconds.
Bike = 48 minutes 53 seconds.
Run = 27 minutes 02 seconds.
On Saturday the 19th May. Amanda Willepotte was involved in the Luxemburg Marathon. This was a team event and Amanda was part of a works team of 4 who would run a section of the marathon each. Amanda was to run the first leg and her section was between 9 and 10k. Amanda did really well, running this section in a time of 50 minuttes before handing over to her next team mate. The team completed the marathon in a time of 3 hours 54 minutes which was good going. The pictures below show Amanda and her team mates, and Amanda just leaving on her section. Can you spot Amanda!
Snowdownia Slateman Triathlon May 2012
On Sunday 20/05/2012 three members from the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in the Snowdownia Slateman Triathlon.
The Snowdownia Slateman Triathlon is one of the more extreme Triathlons on the circuit, voted 2nd only to the Outlaw Triathlon which is held over Ironman distances in Nottingham.
Darren Whitehouse and Debbie Smith took part in the Sprint Slateman and this was their first venture into the world of Triathlon. The Sprint Slateman consisted of a 400 metre open water swim in the Llyn Padarn Lake, a 12.4 mile bike ride to the top of the infamous Pen-Y-Pass climb and then back again before finishing with a 3.7 mile run into the Padarn Country Park and then back to the finish.
Both Darren and Debbie stuck together throughout and did extremely well, especially as this was their first attempt at Triathlon. They completed the course in 1 hour 59 minute 35 seconds. Their split times were as follows: -
Swim = 15 minutes 11 seconds.
Transition 1 = 5 minutes 22 seconds.
Bike = 1 hour 1 minute 37 seconds.
Transition 2 = 1 minute 55 seconds.
Run = 35 minutes 32 seconds for the run.
I took part in the Full Slateman which consisted of a 1000 metre swim in the Llyn Padarn Lake at Llanberis. A 31.5 mile bike ride through the mountains of Snowdownia including the infamous Pen-Y-Pass climb at the start then through the Ogwen Valley heading towards Bangor before cutting across back to Llanberis. Then to finish was a 7 mile run up and over the top of the slate quarry situated above the Electric Mountain Power Station before heading into the Padarn Country Park before th downhill section to the finish at Llanberis.
However due to the extrmely cold temperature of the water in the lake, the swim was reduced from 1000 metres to 750 metres to reduce the time the competitors were exposed to the cold water. Although this was easily the toughest Triathlon I have been involved in, you could not have asked for a better setting. It was a lovely day and if you got chance to lift your head up, some of the views were fantastic. I completed the course in 3 hours 55 minutes 22 seconds. My split times were s follows: -
Swim = 20 minutes 10 seconds.
Transition 1 = 7 minutes 8 seconds.
Bike = 2 hours 3 minutes 16 seconds.
Transition 2 = 4 minutes 1 second.
Run = 1 hour 20 minutes 49 seconds for the run.
I was pleased to get round and finish the course as I had been unable to do much training and in the end I was pleased to break 4 hours. To give you some idea of just how tough this was, out of the 597 competitors that had entered the Full Slateman, 142 failed to make it to the the end!
Market Drayton 10k Run May 2012
On Sunday 13/05/2012 six members of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in the Market Drayton 10k run. It was a great event and the best organised run that I have been involved in. Somewhere in the region of 1000 competitors, lots of stalls, small fair and we were given a lot of items at the end. T Shirt, medal and a large bag full of bits and pieces. A great day for it as well. It was all road and I thought it was reasonably flat. I was running with an old injury that I aggrevated in the week and struggled with it, did not put in a great time but everyone else did really well.
Debbie Smith was once again first in for the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club, 253rd overall with a time of 46 minutes 50 seconds. Steven Jinks in his first run with the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club came in next, 386th overall in a time of 50 minutes 6 seconds.Then Alison Lamputt was next in with another great result, 417th overall and 3rd in her age group with a time of 51 minutes 2 seconds. Richard Humphries was following close behind, coming in 423rd overall with a time of 51 minutes 6 seconds. Dylan Webster was next to cross the line in 483rd with a time of 52 minutes 40 seconds. I was bringing up the rear in 646th with a time of 57 minutes 5 seconds.
Three Spires Triathlon May 2012
On Sunday 06/05/2012 Alison Lamputt competed in her first Triathlon of the season, the Three Spires Sprint Triathlon held at Lichfield.
Alison did really well and completed it in a fantastic time of 1 hour 27 minutes 24 seconds. Flying the flag for the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club. Alison finished 84th overall and finished first in her age group coming away with a trophy so a big Well Done to Alison.
Alison's Split times are as follows: -
400 mtr swim = 9 minutes 11 seconds.
Transition 1 = 2 minutes 31 seconds.
20 km Bike = 48 minutes 12 seconds.
Transition 2 = 1 minute 40 seconds.
5 km Run = 25 minutes 48 seconds.
The Picture below shows Alison just crossing the line to complete the Triathlon.
Haughmond 9 Mile Handicap Chase Multi Terrain Run May 2012
On Sunday 06/05/2012 both myself and Debbie Smith competed in the Haughmond Handicap Chase. A 9 mile multi terrain run that is done slightly different. When registering for the event you put down your time that you should do it in. Then everyone starts at a different time based on those times so that in theory everyone should finish at about the same time. My start time was 10 mintes before Debbie's start time and with that advantage I honestly thought this could be my one and only chance of finishing before Debbie. However I was not expecting what followed. The course was really hilly and coming 4 days after the DK10k run, I really did struggle. In fact I found this harder than any of the other runs we have done and when Debbie passed me with 3 miles still to go, my heart sank!!
Debbie also found this one hard going but did really well. Debbie finished 45th overall in a time of 1 hour 10 minutes 42 seconds. I finished 82nd overall out of 103!! In a time of 1 hour 26 minutes 52 seconds.
The pictures below show both Debbie and myself finishing the race and one of us together after the race. Due to the staggered start, I could not even do my winning for the first 6 yards routine.
Dr Blackburn 10k Road Race May 2012
On the evening of Wednesday 02/05/2012, the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in the Dr Blackburn 10k road race. This was a road race around the lanes of Enville and it was celebrating it's 25th year. This was the first evening race we had been involved in and was really well attended and the biggest field I had been involved in this year with 737 individuals in the race on the evening. We got lucky with the weather as it was dry, not too warm with a breeze keeping it nice and cool and was one of the rare days recently when we did not see any rain.
Mark Whitehouse was the first member across the line in a time of 41 minutes 39 seconds, finishing 69th overall. A great result given the numbers involved. Debbie Smith was next in with a time of 47 minutes 20 seconds, finishing 234th overall. I was next in a new 10k record for me of 51 minutes 4 seconds which was 334th overall. Andy Hawker was next in with a time of 54 minutes 1 second, finishing 436th overall. Dylan Webster came in with a time of 54 mintes 57 seconds, finishing 470th overall.
Please see the couple of pictures below. The first showing the team, from left Dylan Webster, Eddie Brown (me), Mark Whitehouse, Debbie Smith. The other picture shows, and yes you guessed it...... Me winning!!
Ennstone 7 mile Run April 2012
On the morning of Sunday 15/04/12. A couple of us from the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in the Ennstone 7 mile run around Telford Town Park. The weather was really good, lovely sunshine but with a cool breeze that kept the temperarture at a comfortable level for running in. It was a reasonably flat course on tarmac paths with one or two short hills. 95 individuals took part in the run. Debbie Smith and I were the 2 taking part from the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club. Debbie did really well finishing in a time of 55 minutes 59 seconds, 38th overall and 2nd in her age group. I didn't do so well as I was not 100% and here come the excuses!!! I finished in a time of 62 minutes 19 seconds, 66th overall and 5th in my age group, how cool is that and yes there were only 5 in my age group! Although in my defence, I was being put off by a noise for the first 3 mile, a noise that sounded like someone had got water in their shoe! never did find out what it was.....
Please see the pictures below including the first one which shows, and surely this can't be true, for the third event running, me leading the race. Although to be fair, this time Debbie was in a close second. By the time we made the first corner my lead was well and truly over.
March Hair Raiser 10k Run March 2012
On the morning of Sunday 25/03/12. Six members of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in the March Hair Raiser 10k run at Albrighton. The weather was perfect, quite warm, lovely sunshine and a great reasonably flat multi terrain course. 179 individuals took part in the run. Debbie Smith leading the way for the Tri Club, finishing in a time of 50 minutes 52 seconds, 67th overall. Alison Lamputt came in next, 83rd overall in a time of 53 minutes 59 seconds. Susie Bradley and myself were next to finish, Susie finishing in 54 minutes 18 seconds, 91st position and myself coming in 92nd with a time of 54 minutes 19 seconds. Dylan Webster came in next, 103rd with a time of 54 minutes 54 seconds. Dave Titterton closely followed Dylan in 112th with a time of 55 minutes 26 seconds. Dave involved in his first run with the Tri Club.
Myself, Debbie Smith and Susie Bradley then went on to run the Sport Relief 10k at Much Wenlock in the afternoon.
Please see all the pictures below including the first one which shows, yet again, for the second week running, me leading the race. Yes granted it was only 5 yards into the race again and the lead didn't last as long as last time!! If these races were over 6 yards instead of 6 miles I would be making a name for meself.
Sport Relief Mile at Highley & Much Wenlock March 2012
It was the Sport Relief mile today and the event was well supported by the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club at both Highley and Much Wenlock. It was a hot day and everyone did very well. Due to doing the March Hair Raiser 10k in the morning, it was too late for some of us to do the Sport Relief event at Highley, so we joined the crew at Much Wenlock. All 3 distances were represented by the club, the 1 mile, 3 mile and 6 mile. It was a really tough course and very hot making it more difficult. Debbie Smith, Susie Bradley and myself all did the March Hair Raiser 10k in the morning and were doing the 6 mile at Much Wenlock.
Apley Estates Run March 2012
On Sunday 18/03/2012, the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were out for the Apley Estates run, held at the Apley Estate, Norton. This was a great venue for a fun run and everyone had a good time. It was raining quite heavy on the morning of the race, however the rain had stopped upon arrival and when the run started the sun came out and it went really warm. You had the choice of either a 4 mile run or a 10 mile run. The only one of us taking on the 10 miles was Stefan Graham who completed it in 1 hour 36 minutes and 19 seconds coming in 104th overall, which was a good time as this was a tough multi terrain course.
The rest of us took part in the 4 mile run. Debbie Smith finishing 17th overall and 2nd in her age group with a time of 33 minutes 11 seconds. I finished 18th overall in a time of 33 minutes 33 seconds. Alison Lamputt finished 27th overall and 1st in her age group with a time of 35 minutes 27 seconds. Richard Humphries finished 29th overall in a time of 35 minutes 43 seconds. Dylan Webster finishing 34th overall in a time of 37 minutes 29 seconds. James Goulden finished in 49th overall position with a time of 41 minutes 58 seconds.
For me, the most impressive run of the day was that by Louise Rhodes who completed her first official run over this tough 4 mile course in 50 minutes 19 seconds, 62nd place overall, accompanied by her sister Susie finishing in the same time.
Please see all the pictures below including the first one which shows me leading the race, that's right I was actually winning and I don't care that we were only 5 yards from the start! Note the runner on the right who can only gaze across in wonder at this new athlete on the scene.... Yes the lead lasted about 10 yards.
Dambuster Duathlon March 2012
Evesham Half Marathon March 2012
Ellesmere Half Marathon March 2012
On Suday 11/03/2012, three mebers of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club were involved in different events. Firstly Jon Rogers was competing in the very tough Dambusters Duatlon, Finishing in a time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 25 seconds. An excellent 127th place out of a sold out field of 800.
Susie Bradley competed in the Evesham Half Marathon. Finishing in a good time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, over a hilly course.
Finally, I competed in the Ellsmere Half Marathon in a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes, 22 seconds. 68th position, which sounds great so I am going to leave it at that by not mentioning how many people were actually in it!! The weather was perfect for these events and everyone had a good time.
The two pictures below show me holding my own in 5th place, five yards into the race and then me finishing in 68th not looking as bright a I was in the first picture!
Action Heart 5 Mile Heart Run February 2012
On Sunday 26/02/2012, the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club was out in force for the Action Heart 5 mile run being held at Russells Hall Hospital. The weather was perfect for running and it really was good fun with over 450 runners taking part. There were 7 of us taking part with Jon Rogers finishing 18th over all with a time of 30 minutes, 11 seconds which is some going. Mark Whitehouse finished 38th in a time of 32:06. Darren Whitehouse finishing 119th in 37:59. Debbie Smith finishing 132nd and 16th overall female finisher in 38:45. Stefen Graham finished 157th in 39:58. Alison Lamputt finishing 210th and 4th out of 25 in her age group in a time of 42:21 and myself bringing up the rear in 211th with a time of 42:22. Everyone finishing in the top half of the entire field.
Tour de Nock January 2012
On the 29/01/2012, members of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club, Andy Collins and I competed in the Tour de Nock. A 44 mile road cycle race, starting and finishing in Heath Hayes near Cannock. I am unsure of my exact finishing time as my cycle computer decided to give up on me just prior to the start, however, having been dropped off the back early on, it would appear I took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up taking a short cut which resulted in me doing approx 38 miles. Andy finished approx 5 to 10 mins after me, in a time of 2 hours 40 minutes, but along with 2 punctures and also taking a wrong turn somewhere with the others that was not a short cut, they ended up doing 53 miles, which just shows how much quicker than me they were. It was a cold day but it was great fun. Pictured below with Andy and I are also members from the 'Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club' and the 'Kidderminster and Stourport Triathlon Club'
Blymhill 10k Run January 2012
On the 22/01/2012, members of the Bridgnorth Triathlon Club, Debbie Smith and I competed in the Blymhill 10k cross country run. It was great fun and over 330 people took part and the weather was good which is always a bonus for January, although it was a little windy.
Debbie finished in a time of 53 minutes and 25 seconds and I finished in a time of 55 minutes and 50 seconds. Both finishing in the top half which was good going.
London Triathlon July 2011
On the 31/07/2011, I competed in the London Triathlon at the olympic distance. Situated at the Excel Centre, this was a great event. I completed it in 3 hours 10 minutes which is not a great time, but in my defence, I spent most of the time during the 25 mile bike ride sight seeing! To be able to ride the bike on closed roads around the centre of London really was something. It was also one of the hottest days of the year at 32 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Over the weekend there was somewhere in the region of 12000 competitors, which included a full range from pros to individuals trying triathlon for the first time. There were also quite a few celebrities taking part.
Shropshire Triathlon June 2011
On the 05/06/2011, I competed in the Shropshire Triathlon at the olympic distance. The event was held in Ellesmere as it is in 2012. This was a great location and very well set up with a swim in the lake Mere. Although there were individuals there from all levels, i.e. pros to novices, it was also used as a World Championship Qualifying event. This was my first attempt at Triathlon and I finished in a time of 2 hours and 50 minutes, which I was really quite pleased with.
